A Letter From Rod Contreras - Owner / Founder of MX Imports
Welcome! ˇBienvenidos!
I am Rod Contreras, owner and founder of MX Imports. MX Imports was started in July of 2005 with one of my yearly visits to Mexico. I was born in Mexico City and moved to the Unites States at the age of 10. Since then I have kept a close connection to Mexico with yearly family visits to Mexico City and wonderful adventures throughout the beautiful land of Mexico.
It was in July of 2005 that I paid a visit to the state of Guanajuato. It was there that I started my search for some beautiful talavera pieces to import. I walked and explored countless shops selling all sorts of talavera pieces. I knew that a big part of my search was finding the right people behind the product.
It was near the end of my stay that I found Guadalupe and Antonio, a husband and wife team with many years of experience working with an incredible group of talavera artisans. We had an immediate connection and I fell in love with their work.
Not only was I impressed by Guadalupe and Antonio's high-quality standards, but by their committment to their community. We are happy to pay 20% - 25% above 'market' value to create a sustainable business for our artisans in Mexico as well as in the hopes of bringing up the standard of living of the community at large. This is important and part of our mission statement at MX Imports.
