A Letter From Rod Contreras - Owner / Founder of MX Imports

I am Rod Contreras, owner and founder of MX Imports. MX Imports was started in July of 2005 with one of my yearly visits to Mexico. I was born in Mexico City and moved to the Unites States at the age of 10. Since then I have kept a close connection to Mexico with yearly family visits to Mexico City and wonderful adventures throughout the beautiful land of Mexico.
It was in July of 2005 that I paid a visit to the state of Guanajuato. It was there that I started my search for some beautiful talavera pieces to import. I walked and explored countless shops selling all sorts of talavera pieces. I knew that a big part of my search was finding the right people behind the product.
It was near the end of my stay that I found Guadalupe and Antonio, a husband and wife team with many years of experience working with an incredible group of talavera artisans. We had an immediate connection and I fell in love with their work.
Not only was I impressed by Guadalupe and Antonio's high-quality standards, but by their committment to their community. We are happy to pay about 20-25% above 'market' value, in order to create a sustainable business for our artisans in Mexico as well as in the hopes of bringing up the standard of living of the community at large.
